According to the CDC, nearly 800,000 Americans die each year from heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases — that’s one in every three deaths in the US. Annually, approximately one in every six US healthcare dollars is spent on cardiovascular disease. By 2030, annual direct medical costs associated with cardiovascular diseases are projected to rise to more than $818 billion, while lost productivity costs could exceed $275 billion. That’s approximately $3 billion per day.
Wearables have tremendous potential to improve cardiovascular health. Leveraging insights from collected and analyzed data, cardio wearables are increasingly becoming an essential tool for healthcare systems. Additionally, consumer demand for improved well-being is driving advanced, next-generation wearables with capabilities that were not possible even a few years ago. Most large medical device, pharmaceutical, and consumer electronics companies have active wearables initiatives, including for cardio applications.
