Notwithstanding the continuing challenges of maternal mortality, morbidity, and preterm births, obstetrics practice has become even more demanding. Advances in human genetics now, more than ever, make it necessary for genetics to have a central role in preconception, pregnancy, and perinatal care. In over five-thousand genetic disorders, specific genes have been identified enabling preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) and prenatal genetic diagnosis.
